BERBS SET TO GO

Dimitar Berbatov is on the verge of leaving Manchester United. According to some reports, Berbatov has clearly been told by the United management that there is very little possibility of him getting a chance to play in the upcoming season. Berbatov wasn’t given many opportunities to play in the last season as well. He featured for United in only 21 matches in the last season. Now, with the inclusion of Robin Van Persie in the United squad, it has become even more difficult for Berbatov to get a place in the side. So, the Bulgarian striker wants to leave the club. It has been reported that the Russian club, Zenit St Petersburg, has shown interest in Berbatov and the striker could be on his way to Russia.

Berbatov has been playing for Manchester United since the last 4 years. He had joined the club in 2008 on a contract of 4 years. United had bought him from Tottenham Hotspur after paying a transfer fee of 30 million pounds. Berbatov played his first match for United against Liverpool. He scored his first goal for United against Aalborg BK in a match of the Champions League. In the 2010-11 season, Berbatov scored five goals in a match against Blackburn Rovers which is a record. United had won that match by 7-1. In the last season, Berbatov was often ignored by Alex Ferguson and Danny Welbeck was preferred ahead of him. In January 2012, there were rumours that Berbatov might be transferred to Bayern Munich, but, United had ended those speculations by extending Berbatov’s contract for another 1 year.

However, neither Berbatov nor Alex Ferguson has said anything about Berbatov’s transfer yet. But, according to the reports, Ferguson doesn’t need Berbatov in the team anymore and the Bulgarian striker could be leaving the club pretty soon.
