MARTIAL TO LEAVE OLD TRAFFORD
There is no surprise that France international Anthony Martial wants to leave Old Trafford this summer. The former AS Monaco man has not been much of a success at the club since he moved to England under Louis van Gaal.
At only 22, the player has had a fair share of life. He saw LvG leave unceremoniously following their FA Cup win, he had his issues with the mother of his child and was subject to several tabloid stories. He comes from a well-respected football family in France but took the brave decision at 14 to move out to write his own story.
Those who have played with him or known him such as DimitarBerbatov, Patrice Evra et al have praised him for his level headedness and his good personality. Mourinho has criticized him regularly, demanding that he raise his game. With him starting from the bench and being ignored, his confidence has deteriorated.
He is still young, skillful and versatile. Manchester United had to pay heavily, with a lot of clauses to sign him from the Ligue 1. With the player still having a lot of admirers, Mourinho would be hoping to recoup a lot in return. The player netted 36 times in 135 games but is now eager for a change. While the Red Devils might not want to sell and keep him, it makes no sense for a player that desperately wants to leave to remain as he would not be able to offer much.
A lot would depend on Mourinho and his long term plans. United have the rights to the player and are in a strong place to negotiate. This is the same reason Luke Shaw has remained but both are willing to get new employers this summer.
