Radamel Falcao exit made Dimitar as main Man at Monaco
After the exit of Radamel Falcao in the summer, former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov is the main man at Monaco.
The Bulgarian has responded to this pressure by scoring six goals in 17 appearances.
However, the lack of goals from other players has resulted in a goal drought that is becoming a major problem for manager Leonardo Jardim. The club succumbed to a 1-0 defeat against Guingamp in their last match and this does not bode well for an encounter against Rennes at home in the Coupe de France. Should Monaco continue with the ongoing goal drought, which has seen them go three matches without a goal, they will be dumped out of the competition.
Jardim has overseen an impressive run of form in the last few months. It has put Monaco on the verge of a Champions League spot after having flirted with relegation at the start of the season. The club initially found it difficult to cope with the exit of big names like James Rodriguez and Falcao. However, they have substantially strengthened the team through hard work and tactics that they are now just eight points behind rivals PSG in the third spot. Berbatov has not scored since the 1-0 win over Lille.
“Since the start of the season we’ve had a problem in the final third, and we are working hard to fix it. The players, more than anyone, are disappointed with our latest results and goalscoring difficulties. We will play against Rennes to win, other players will have the opportunity to show what they can do,” said the Monaco manager, who has also had to be without big names like Ricardo Carvalho and Joao Moutinho for the recent matches. The duo will continue to remain absent from the squad when Monaco take on Rennes on Wednesday.
